Ann Arbor New Tech’s signature event takes place on the third Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 p.m., at <a href="http://www.a2newtech.org/venue/914331/?eventId=12226019&#38;popup=true" target="_blank">Blau Auditorium, UM Ross School of Business</a>, 701 Tappan Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.  The monthly event features three to five companies who are each given five minutes to demo and five minutes to answer questions.  Open announcements and networking follows.

		<description><![CDATA[Our very own Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, in <em><a href="http://www.michbar.org/opinions/us_appeals/2009/110409/44218.pdf" target="_blank">Bridgeport Music, Inc. v. UMG Recordings, Inc.</a></em>, recently affirmed a jury's verdict that the defendants willfully infringed plaintiff-Bridgeport's rights in the song "Atomic Dog" – a song created by George Clinton, leader of Parliament-Funkadelic – and awarded the plaintiffs $88,980 in statutory damages.  On appeal, the defendants challenged the correctness of the jury instructions on several grounds but most notable with respect to the instructions on whether the two songs were “substantially similar” in order to find copyright infringement.

<blockquote>Michigan's three research universities gained ground in cultivating new startup companies, but still lag their peer university clusters nationally in other technology transfer areas, according to a study released today.

The <strong>University of Michigan</strong>, <strong>Wayne State University</strong> and <strong>Michigan State University </strong>— known collectively as the <strong>University Research Corridor </strong>— helped cultivate 28 new startup companies in 2008, up from 14 in 2007 and 18 in 2006, but on par with the 28 launched in 2004.</blockquote>
